YOUR EXPEDITION PAPERS

Your papers are in order, your provisions are packed, and the trail ahead is almost certainly less hospitable than advertised.

Below you'll find your first three chapters of INTO OLD COUNTRY: A Frontier Saga, along with a few familiar (and soon-to-be-familiar) faces you'll encounter along the way.

Take your time. Mind the old customs. And should you hear something calling your name from the treeline, do us all a favor and keep walking.

Happy trails,
Jaclyn

P.S. The author assumes no responsibility for missing travelers, questionable decisions, or emotional attachments to fictional cowboys.

MEET YOUR GUIDES

WARREN BRIGGS

TRAIL GUIDE / HEAD OF SECURITY

Experienced wilderness guide, accomplished marksman, and a man of remarkably few words. Knows the country, knows the dangers, and would strongly prefer you follow instructions the first time.

HALLEN RUSK

WAGON MASTER / MORALE OFFICER

Oversees transport, supplies, and the occasional spectacularly poor decision. Possesses an infectious laugh, a talent for making friends, and considerably more optimism than the current situation warrants.

JOHANNA VAR

CHIEF SURVEYOR / CARTOGRAPHER

Responsible for maps, measurements, and ensuring the expedition doesn't accidentally wander into the wrong territory. Exceptionally competent, relentlessly curious, and has never once considered a man's confidence sufficient evidence that he knows where he's going.

Not accompanying this expedition. They’ll wish she was soon enough.

ADA MERCER

EXPEDITION PHYSICIAN / DAMAGE CONTROL

Highly skilled in treating gunshot wounds, broken bones, and the consequences of grown men making decisions with absolutely no regard for their own survival. Has an excellent bedside manner, provided you're not being an idiot.

Not accompanying this expedition. A regrettable scheduling conflict, considering the anticipated casualty rate.

FJØLL TWO-HEART

WILDERNESS SCOUT / CULTURAL LIAISON

Expert tracker, skilled fighter, and an invaluable asset in unfamiliar territory. Unfortunately, he is aware of this. Frequently found making inappropriate jokes at inappropriate times, usually at someone else's expense. Has yet to receive a formal complaint he considers valid.

Not accompanying this expedition. The disciplinary committee is enjoying a much-needed holiday.
